Frequently Asked Questions
Are the classes currently running?
Yes, classes are running as shown on my classes page. Most courses run continually throughout the year unless otherwise stated. The start date for the next course is shown on the classes page.
I am a complete beginner, are these classes suitable for me?
Yes, all my classes are suitable for complete beginners, no previous experience is necessary. Many people feel they are the most inexperienced of beginners - you are definitely welcome at my classes! Tuition and support will be provided throughout. If you are wondering which course would be most suitable for a beginner, the answer is - the course that appeals to you the most is the most suitable for you! All you need is to give it a try and have a bit of patience.
Where are they held?
Most classes are held in the Hopkirk Building which is well signposted in the Botanic Gardens and can be located via large maps at the main entrances. It is situated behind the main range of square glasshouses. Saturday oil and Monday Open Art Class are held in two venues just a couple of streets away from the gardens. Thursday Drawing Skills is held at Kelvingrove Museum.
How do I book?
To book on any course, just email me via the contact page and tell me which class you are interested in, including the course title and the day it runs. I will reserve you a place and send you a confirmation email.
Can I book for more than one person?
I require everyone to book courses with me directly due to last minute cancellations. You can book others for life drawing but you will have to pay for your friends places if they don't show up.
How do I pay?
Payment can be made online by bank transfer before the course begins. All required info will be sent to course members.
Are materials provided?
Materials are not provided but a comprehensive list of what's required will be, plus I can arrange a discount at Millers in Glasgow city centre where you can buy all that's needed. Please ask.
I'd like to know what courses are coming up, can you give me more information?
Yes, I can add you to my mailing list to keep you informed of all classes and courses. I run two mailing lists; one for the weekly life drawing classes where I send an email each week inviting you to attend the following class, plus another mailing list for all my six week courses which comes out roughly a week before the beginning of a new course. Get in touch to be added to one or both mailing lists. To be unsubscribed, just ask.
Can I just turn up for any class?
No, reserving a place by email is essential. Most classes are fully booked so I'd have to turn you away if you haven't booked. Have a look at the classes page and get in touch to book a place.
I can't make all the dates on a course but I'd still like to attend.
This is possible if arranged in advance. You can usually book and pay for just the reduced number of classes at a reduced cost - preference is given to those wishing to attend whole course.
What happens if I miss a class?
Once a course is booked and paid for in full there will be no refunds for missed classes. You can't transfer sessions you booked but missed once the course began.
What if I need to cancel a booking completely?
Life is busy so cancellations happen, if you can let me know by email as soon as possible it's not a problem. The cut off is 48 hours before any course begins. Once you sign up you are agreeing to pay in full for any course if cancellation occurs within 48 hours of the start date.
